Choosing the Right Dry Boat Storage
If you've got a boat, you know that it gives you hours of fun on the water. Simply put, you can do things that people without boats can't do - have a picnic on the water, fishing, water skiing, swimming, or just taking a boat ride. But what do you do with the thing out of season? This is when dry boat storage becomes a concern.
If you have a small boat, of course, you may simply be able to store it at home indoors. For example, you can easily stash your canoe in any corner of your garage during off season. But if you've got a really large and motorized boat, this becomes a bit of a hassle. You can choose between wet or dry boat storage marinas, with dry boat storage being your best option. Let's talk about why.
With wet storage, you can certainly take your boat out at a moment's notice, but this is best used during the months when you're often on the water. In fact, you probably go fot wet storage in season unless you always take your boat back with you when you go home on a trailer. With wet storage, your boat isn't necessarily covered, although you may cover it yourself with a tarp. It should be noted as well that some marinas do offer coverage for wet storage, too. This is optimal if you want to protect your boat from the elements even when you're not using it.
For off-season storage, dry boat storage is usually a better option for you as a boat owner. Then your boat is lifted out of the water and stored in a place where it's dry and safe against moisture-related damage. This prevents your boat from deteriorating due to natural elements and keeps it in good condition for many years to come.
As for dry storage, facility providers will take your boat out of the water and keep it in an area called a storage slip. You can also use dry boat storage if you want to work on your boat and be out of the elements while you do so. This protects your boat from further damage while you work on it and it also protects it from the elements.
Dry boat storage can be inconvenient if you use it in season because you have to store and launch your boat separately each time you use it. But it's certainly a perfect way to store your boat and protect it from natural degradation during months when you won't be using it. This is definitely a wise, cost-effective and responsible direction to take as a boat owner.
